Trumpeter 1/72 07127 Soviet KV-85 Heavy Tank
The KW-85 is a Soviet heavy tank from the Second World War. The first prototypes of this vehicle were made in 1943, and the car entered service in the same year. Approximately 130-150 vehicles of this type were produced in the course of production. The combat weight of the tank was up to 46 tons. The drive was provided by a single W-2K diesel engine with a power of up to 600 HP. The main armament consisted of the 85mm D-5T gun and three 7.62mm DT machineguns. The KW-85 vehicle was developed as a development of the KW-1s tank. Compared to its prototype, it had a very similar hull, but it was widened. A slightly different armor layout was also used, and above all, a completely new turret was used to house the D-5T tank gun, which meant a significant increase in firepower compared to the 76.2 mm gun mounted on the KW-1s. Despite the fact that the KW-85 was a successful design, with good armor and armament, it gave way to the mass-produced T-34/85 and the parallel IS series vehicles (IS-1 and - especially - IS-2).
