The Porsche 917 is a German racing car that was first presented to the public in 1968. Its serial production started in the same year and continued until 1968. Production was concentrated in Stuttgart, Germany. Only 25 copies of this car were made for the commercial market.
The Porsche 917 was developed as the successor to the other racing cars of the brand: the 907, and especially the 908, by Hans Mezger. Structurally, it was very clearly based on the model 908. Compared to its predecessor, the Porsche 917 differed primarily in a much more powerful engine, because it used Type 912 engines with a capacity of 4.5 to 5 liters, compared to the top 3-liter engines in the "908" ". The aerodynamics in the new car were also significantly improved and the dimensions of the vehicle were changed, which - as it turned out on the tracks - improved the grip and traction properties. The car proved successful and gave Porsche the coveted victories at Le Mans in 1970 and 1971.
